Digital Security and Protection of Women’s Rights in Cyberspace

Cyber Safe for Women is a regional initiative by TechnoWomen aimed at strengthening cybersecurity awareness among women and creating a safe digital environment across Central Asia.

The project is implemented with the support of the Central Asian Alliance for the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence and UN Women in Kazakhstan.

About the Program

Cyber Safe for Women combines educational, expert, and institutional initiatives designed to:

  • improve digital literacy among women

  • protect personal data

  • prevent and respond to online violence

  • develop sustainable digital security skills

The initiative has been implemented in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, and continues to expand professional and regional cooperation.

Scale and Expertise

The program follows a “train-the-trainer” model:

  • 200 certified trainers

  • more than 2,000 women trained across different regions

Training covers key cybersecurity topics, including:

  • protection against phishing and online fraud

  • safe use of social media

  • personal data protection

  • responding to digital threats

  • prevention of cyber violence

Participants receive practical tools and clear response strategies to ensure effective protection in digital environments.

Project Development in 2025

In 2025, the program expanded its institutional engagement.

On March 1, 2025, an online training session on cybersecurity fundamentals was held for human rights defenders, lawyers, and employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Department for the Protection of Women and Children, with 68 participants.

On December 5, 2025, the Cyber Safe for Women online conference took place. During the event, proposals were introduced to strengthen child protection in cyberspace as part of the national concept “Children of Kazakhstan.”

The project is therefore evolving from individual digital safety training toward broader systemic solutions for the protection of women and children.

  • building a culture of responsible and safe technology use

In the context of rapid digital transformation, initiatives like this are strategically important for sustainable social development.

The project is implemented by TechnoWomen in partnership with the Central Asian Alliance for the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence, with support from UN Women in Kazakhstan.

Cyber Safe for Women brings together experts, government institutions, international organizations, and civil society to strengthen digital safety across the region.
